The grace period for leaving the UAE after the cancellation of a residency visa has typically been increased to 60 to 180 days. The grace period, which was previously 30 days, is determined by the type of visa. After their visa is cancelled, expatriates must leave the country or apply for a new one within the grace period.

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) typing centre employees and customer service representatives have confirmed the extended period is currently in effect. The country announced the flexible period last month as it implemented significant changes to its entry and residency visa program. An employee of a typing centre confirmed that one of his clients had the extended grace period applied following visa cancellation.

“A skilled professional got a grace period of 180 days to exit the country.” According to information shared by typing centre agents, the period varies according to the visa type. The Advanced Visa System comprises many residency types, including the Green Visa – which allows an individual to sponsor their family for five years, as opposed to the existing system of two years.

It is applicable to various individuals including skilled workers, self-employed people and freelancers. There have also been a number of changes in visit visa permits. New visas will allow a stay of 60 days as opposed to 30 days earlier.

A five-year multiple-entry tourist visa that doesn’t require a sponsor has also been introduced. Additionally, it has been revealed that the freehold visa’s previous three-year validity has been reduced to two years as a result of the new reforms. This also applies to family members of visa applicants who are partners in a mainland business.
