In recognition of the RTA’s solar-powered traditional Abras, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has been named the winner of the Asian Leadership Awards’ Best Renewable Resources, Sustainable Transport category.
Additionally, RTA won the Arabia Corporate Social Responsibility Award 2022, the Gulf Sustainability Award, and the Global Leadership Award in the Field of Sustainability.
Due to the introduction of traditional green Abras that are powered by solar energy, RTA’s Marine Transport Department has won the Best Renewable Resources, Sustainable Transport Award.
Now, half of the Abras owned by the RTA are zero-emission vehicles. The Marine Transport Department has developed plans that support the culture of the green economy and sustainable transportation and are in line with RTA’s green economy strategy.
The Department launched a number of projects and initiatives, including hybrid Abras and the use of bio-diesel for traditional Abras in Dubai Creek, last year, in an effort to protect the environment.
Thanks to a submission about RTA’s extensive CSR empowerment project made by the Safety, Risk Regulation & Planning Department at the Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector, RTA has also won the Arabia Corporate Social Responsibility Award 2022 in the category of Large-Sized Enterprises.
In addition to winning the Global Leadership Award in the field of sustainability in the category of Best Sustainability Performance, RTA also won the Gulf Sustainability Award in three categories: Best Sustainability Team, Best Environmental Sustainability Programme, and Innovation in Sustainable Technology.
