If you are a new resident coming to Dubai and setting up your new house or just changing residences in the emirate, the power and water connection is typically one of the most crucial items to take care of first. DEWA, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, facilitate such connections in Dubai.
What is DEWA?
DEWA is an acronym for “Department of Energy and Water Administration.” The Dubai Electrical and Water Authority was established on January 1, 1992, by late Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum to merge Dubai’s electricity and water departments, which had previously operated separately.
The Dubai government has been extremely supportive of the Power and Water Department in providing a dependable supply of both electricity and water to the people and ranking as one of the world’s top utilities.
Facts About DEWA
The Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) employs 12,000 employees in seven business lines that serve B2B and B2C clients (in the commercial, residential, and industrial markets). They’re the role model in the Gulf Region, with yearly revenues of around US$6 billion and profitability of US$1.8 billion.
It has serviced over 880,000 clients with a 95% customer satisfaction rating since about 2018. According to the World Bank’s 2018 Doing Business Report, the United Arab Emirates, represented by DEWA, rated No. 1 in the world for ease of obtaining energy. DEWA has a capacity of 11,400MW of power and 470 million imperial gallons of desalinated water per day in 2019.
After relying on traditional gas-fired power plants for most of its existence, DEWA is currently constructing the 5GW Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is recognized for breaking numerous cost records for solar energy, including photovoltaics and concentrated solar power.
Following the installation of a 13 MW (DC) solar plant as the first phase in 2013, developer ACWA Power was contracted to build a 200 MW (AC) second phase in January 2015. The third phase is an 800 MW photovoltaic power plant that began construction in the fall of 2015 and is expected to be finished by 2020.
Also, DEWA intends to build a 250 MW pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant in Hatta, which will use 880 million gallons of water 300 meters above a lower dam.

Different Initiative of DEWA
- DUBAI SHAMS
DEWA has launched this project to encourage the usage of solar energy in Dubai and to spearhead the transition to clean, renewable energy sources. Shams Dubai, by Executive Council Registration 46 of 2014, aims to become the emirate one of the world’s smartest cities, in line with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum’s vision, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, as well as Ruler of Dubai.
Property owners can link their photovoltaic (PV) systems to the DEWA grid through the initiative, which results in lower electricity bills, among other things. Furthermore, the excess power is returned to the grid. Take a look at our detailed guide on how to use solar panels in your Dubai home if you’re interested in learning more about this opportunity.
Solar energy installation is a lengthy procedure that may be summarized as follows:
Step 1: Obtaining a Certificate of No Objection (NOC)
Step 2: Obtaining Design Approval
Step 3: Inspection and connection
Step 4: Generation is the fourth stage.
Contractors will be hired who will apply for NOC directly on the power company’s website utilizing contractor login information. The trade license must be submitted by the builder or contractor, and there are no application fees. When you go solar with DEWA, you’ll have to pay a one-time connection charge of AED 1,500. There are additional fees and complexities to the procedure.
- STATIONS FOR CHARGING ELECTRIC VEHICLES (EV GREEN CHARGER)
DEWA Dubai also provides electric car charging services as part of its green efforts. To encourage the use of eco-friendly, sustainable forms of transportation and minimize carbon emissions, it has erected 200 EV Green Charger stations around the emirate as of October 2018.
On the ‘EV Charger Card Services’ page of the website, you may get a replacement or cancel an EV Green Charger Card. Until January 31, 2021, non-commercial electric car owners can use any EV station for free charging. But you must first register your car to make use of the free service.

Difference Between Ejari and Premise Number
The premise number is generally located on the front gate of the property where you are applying for tenancy.
However, The Ejari number is not the same as the Premise number. After you’ve decided on an apartment or villa in Dubai, you’ll need to file your tenancy contract with the land department online. This is referred to as Ejari, and the registration process is straightforward. You only require information such as the rental agreement’s conditions and the rental company’s name.
Once you’ve entered these data, the Ejari online system will generate a unique barcode that will be valid for the duration of the contract.
